I was lucky enough to complete my second clinical at PT Hawaii! I learned so much in the short 10 weeks I interned there. Dang was an amazing teacher. He took extra time out of the day to teach me skills, go over manual techniques, and answer any questions I had. The staff was also very welcoming and helped me acclimate quickly. At PT Hawaii, you will not only gain valuable outpatient orthopedic experience, you will be exposed to aquatic therapy as well. In PT school, aquatic therapy is gone over in one lecture and lab with a large focus on its benefits for patients with neurological diagnoses, not so much for those with orthopedic impairments/injuries or for those living with chronic pain. I’m so grateful for having exposure to aquatics at PT Hawaii! Here, you will treat many patients living with chronic pain who have concomitant orthopedic injuries. You will get the opportunity to determine an individualized plan of care, whether it be land based, aquatic based, or both. I watched my patients become stronger, manage their pain better, and have a better quality of life with the guidance of Dang. Any student would be lucky to complete a clinical at PT Hawaii!

I am very grateful to be able to complete my last, 11 week, affiliation here at PT Hawaii. I chose PT Hawaii because I wanted to learn from the best. Being that Dr. Dang has an Orthopedic Residency background made a huge difference. Dr. Dang has an extensive diagnostic knowledge base, and exceptional manual therapy skills. During my time there, he was able to diagnose cases that physicians had missed. Being a doctorate student, differential diagnosis is very important to be able to treat patients properly and effectively. Also, Dr. Dang is PT Hawaii’s Clinical Director. Therefore, I was able to see the business aspect of PT, which I never had learned about before. This helped me understand what it would take to become a clinical director to improve my professional development. If you are a DPT student, and want to challenge and/or expand you knowledge base spend a few days/weeks at PT Hawaii. You’ll learn about physical therapy at an orthopedic residency level.

I was lucky enough to complete a 12 week clinical rotation at PT Hawaii in the Fall of 2018 during my third year of physical therapy school. The facilities at PT Hawaii are conducive for all types of orthopedic rehab, including aquatherapy, general strength and conditioning, post-operative rehab, and return to sport training for higher level athletic populations, which allowed me to have a broad range of clinical treatment experiences during my 12 week affiliation. My clinical instructor, Dang, having just completed his orthopedic residency, taught me things that were more advanced than general PT school knowledge and pushed me to broaden my knowledge base by studying current clinical research concepts. Additionally, I was given ample time to practice manual therapy techniques and joint mobilizations/manipulations, allowing me to become more confident in my own skills as a result of his coaching.

I had an awesome clinical experience during my eight-week rotation at PT Hawaii! I was able to work with a diverse patient population. Through this experience, I became very comfortable working with a variety of orthopedic conditions. I learned many new manual therapy techniques and improved upon my existing skills. My clinical instructor adapted to my learning style and tailored this experience to my individual goals throughout my entire experience. Everyone who works there was so welcoming and the clinic as a whole is a fun environment to be in. It feels like everyone truly enjoys coming to work every day, which makes it easy to collaborate with other members of the team. I also loved that we were able to offer aquatic therapy as a treatment option. My school’s curriculum had some content on aquatic therapy, but it was nice to build upon this knowledge and use the water to rehab patients. PT Hawaii was an amazing learning experience!
